Welham Jones celebrates its 25th birthday this year.

Welham Jones is an independent business, owned and operated by Sandra and Simon Welham for almost 25 years. Joined in recent years by their daughter, Rebecca as Funeral Director and Business Development Manager, the continuation of the family name is assured, and with the most recent addition to the family, Rebecca’s daughter, we hope to continue the Welham Jones legacy.

The daughter of a funeral director, Sandra Welham has spent her life in the business having been born above one London branch of Nodes, a London funeral director managed by her father, Mac Jones, one of England’s earliest qualified embalmers. Mac, later known to many Sennockians as the funeral manager of the long gone Young’s Department Store, became a General Manager for Great Southern Group, the UK’s largest privately held funeral concern before its acquisition by SCI in 1989. He then worked with Welham Jones in a consultancy capacity until his death in 2013. Welham Jones owes its approach to business from this early mentoring, and the importance of exemplary customer service is something, not only learned from a lifetime of experience, but continues to filter through the generations. 

Simon Welham, a banker by profession, had nurtured and developed the business to a point where it required his full time attention and consequently he joined on a full time basis in 2003 after a career of some 30 years in the City. 

The Welham Jones family provides both professional and skilled service and care to its customers. By combining modern technology with traditional methods, customers can expect a dignified service of the highest professional standards. With care and attention to detail being a priority, our aim is to make sure we do everything we can to ease your pain and distress.

Our fierce pride in having the family name attached to our business means we would never compromise the standard of service we provide.

 
1992  -  Welham Jones opened its first premises in Sevenoaks, on a prominent site near the railway station, at the junction of St Botolph’s and London Roads. The premises will be remembered by many as the site of French’s Dairies, another well known family concern.

1995  -  After 18 months serving the communities in and around Sevenoaks, the business is incorporated as Welham Jones Limited; its shareholders are Sandra and Simon Welham.

1998  -  An opportunity presents itself to expand, and suitable premises are found at Belmont Parade, Green Lane, Chislehurst. Welham Jones becomes the towns’ first and only Funeral Director.

2000  -  Welham Jones expands further by opening premises in Station Road, establishing itself as Swanley’s only family owned funeral director.

2003  -  Continued expansion leads to pressure on premises, and a site is secured in Dunton Green to establish a purpose built and state of the art private mortuary. Opened early in 2004, this facility provides up to date facilities that comply with current and foreseen Health and Safety legislation.

2004  -  Workshop and garaging facilities are opened alongside the Dunton Green mortuary, giving Welham Jones a focal point for its operations. A new fleet of vehicles, comprising hearses and limousines, completed a 2 year investment programme intended as a platform to further expansion.

2007  -  The availability of suitable premises in Western Road leads us to open a very spacious office and establish ourselves as Borough Green’s only family owned funeral directors.

2010  -  Daughter, Rebecca, joined the family business in November 2010 as funeral director and business manager. Rebecca has built on Welham Jones’ existing relationships with local businesses, nursing homes and the clergy as well as promoting the company and family name.

2011  -  Once again, taking advantage of the availability of suitable property the decision is taken to open an office in Orpington, taking advantage of a visible retail property close to Chelsfield station.

2014  -  A ready made property comes onto the market in Crescent Road Tunbridge Wells leading to a decision to open an office there.

2016  -  With offices in Sevenoaks and now Tunbridge Wells it seems natural to establish a presence in between and an office is secured in Tonbridge at the junction of the High Street and Bank Street. Unfortunately, due to problems with the fabric of the building the office is not expected to open until early 2017.

2017  -  On 2nd September we will celebrate our 25th anniversary.
