About Borough Green

Borough Green is a village located on the A25 between Sevenoaks and Maidstone and is a civil parish in the Borough of Tonbridge and Malling in Kent.

Not many people would realise that this small village is home to the British Racing and Sports Car Club – the BRSCC. But then again, Brands Hatch race circuit is only 6 miles away. It plays an important role in British motor racing, by organising both club race meetings and FIA sanctioned international events.

Borough Green has three churches:

  • The Church of the Good Shepherd, Quarry Hill Road (Anglican, Church of England)
  • St Joseph’s, Western Road (Roman Catholic)
  • Borough Green Baptist Church, High Street (Baptist)

Shopping

As you would expect from a small village, shops are limited. However there is a local supermarket, a number of convenience stores, a bank, post office and pharmacy.

Outdoor Activities

Only 1.7 miles away you have one of Kent’s finest gardens, Great Comp Garden. Where you can visit the 17th century manor house and explore the seven acres of grounds that contain rare and beautiful plants, including the Italian Garden and woods.

Located 2.7 miles away near Plaxtol, is the small 13th century Old Soar Manor, built in 1290 and originally owned by the Culpepper family, but now owned by English Heritage and maintained by the National Trust.

If you fancy getting some fresh country air, take a walk in the 17 acres of Basted Mill Woodland which is only 1 mile from the centre of Borough Green. Originally the old Basted paper mill was situated in the area and had been in use from 1716. Though burnt down in 1917, it was rebuilt but finally closed in 1968 after suffering damage in the floods of September of that year.

Transport

There is mainline railway station, Borough Green & Wrotham, that is operated by Southeastern and runs to London Victoria.

Education

Borough Green Primary School serves the village itself and other nearby communities.
