A cemetery is a large open burial ground, run privately or run by the local authorities, they can sometimes be called memorial parks. A crematorium is a place that carries out cremations.
Some crematoria, especially those with attached cemeteries, offer the choice of burial or cremation; others only offer cremation. We have indicated this where relevant.

For people of all faiths and beliefs wanting a ‘natural burial’, either with or without a service at the venue. There are no buildings, so gazebos or marquees can be erected for shelter in which to have a service or wake. Only one funeral is held per day, and wheelchair access is limited. Offering a tranquil environment for a range of multi-faith funeral and memorial services, both religious and non-religious. Cremations do not take place here but a their ‘sister site’ in Faversham. Set in extensive, landscaped grounds, the chapel has seating for 83 guests; additionally, there is standing room both inside the chapel and outside in the courtyard, with speakers in the foyer so that people standing outside can hear the service. There are some limited open churches located in the areas surrounding the Welham Jones branches:
* Brasted, Westerham, Sundridge, Seal, near to our Sevenoaks branch, have some open churches, but there are none in Sevenoaks itself.
Open Churchyards in the Sevenoaks area are for local parishioners ONLY.
There is an Otford Cemetery for parishioners.
Churchyards can be re-opened for burials if the family are already buried in there and there is room in the grave.
