Arrange a funeral with confidence, without the stress or uncertainty
We used Welham Jones for my mother’s funeral and we couldn’t have had a more professional, caring and helpful experience from Sharon in the office and the rest of the staff – Janet and Michelle – at a time when we were all feeling low because of our loss. They helped us throughout the process and were there whenever we needed anything. (Mike Smart)

Belmont Parade has had a Welham Jones funeral home on it since 1998, and the branch still works the way it always has: one funeral director sees your family through, start to finish. Sharon Cunningham leads the team here, and whether you’re calling at 3pm or 3am, you’ll get someone who picks up the phone properly, not a script, not a queue.
Chislehurst keeps its village feel even though Bromley’s busy high street is a short drive away, and the team here moves between the two without missing a beat. They know which crematoria get booked up fastest, which churches still hold open services for local parishioners, and how to get a wake organised at short notice when a family hasn’t had time to think that far ahead.
Nobody should feel rushed into a decision about how to say goodbye. We lay out the choices plainly, answer the same question twice if you need us to, and only ask you to commit once you're actually ready.
St Nicholas Church, Chislehurst has stood on the edge of the common for over 500 years, and its churchyard still holds a dedicated area for interring ashes, something we explain to families who didn't know the option existed. Over in Bromley, St Mary's Church, College Road, Bromley on College Road remains a regular choice for services, and we work with both with the same easy familiarity.
Questions don't stop the day after the funeral. Paperwork, probate queries, a phone call three weeks later because something's come up — we're still on the other end of the line.
Call any hour of the day or night and talk to a real person who’ll guide you through what happens next.
From the first collection through to the order of service, we take care of the details so you don’t have to chase them.
Spend your time with family, not on hold to a crematorium or chasing paperwork, that part’s ours.

Losing someone isn’t a logistics problem, even though it can feel like a hundred small tasks land on you all at once. Our job is to take as many of those off your plate as we can, so you’ve got room to actually grieve.
We’ve been a fixture in this part of South East London since 1998, and that history means something practical: we know the local crematoria, the local clergy, and the small print of how funerals actually get arranged around here. Families across Chislehurst, Bromley, and the villages between have leaned on us at the worst weeks of their lives, and we don’t take that lightly.
Our branch sits on Belmont Parade on Green Lane, Chislehurst, a quiet spot just off the main road that’s easy enough to find without feeling clinical or corporate once you’re through the door.
Inside, there’s a private family room and a chapel of rest where you can spend time with your loved one without anyone hovering or watching the clock. Decisions don’t get rushed here, we’d rather you took an extra ten minutes than felt pushed into something you weren’t ready for.
Whatever needs sorting, collection, paperwork, coordinating with the crematorium or church, we handle it in the background so you’re not the one making the calls.
From Belmont Parade we cover Bromley, New Eltham, Mottingham, Elmstead Woods, St Paul’s Cray, Bickley, Sundridge Park, Petts Wood and Southborough Lane, and most places in between.
Not every family wants the same kind of send-off, and we don’t push one. Some choose a traditional service at St Nicholas Church, Chislehurst; others want something less formal, a celebration of life with no readings, or a woodland burial outside the city altogether. Whichever direction a family takes, we’ll handle the legal paperwork and registration questions quietly in the background.
Coffins range from simple veneered chipboard through to solid oak and woven willow, and the price difference between them can be substantial, we’ll walk you through what each option actually costs before you choose, not after.
Personalisation matters to a lot of families. Some want a particular colour, a football club crest, a specific wood finish that meant something to the person who’s died. We can usually accommodate religious or cultural requirements too, so just ask if there’s something specific you need.

A funeral marks one day. A memorial is what’s there afterwards, somewhere to stand, somewhere to bring flowers on a birthday, somewhere the name stays visible.
Headstones, plaques, garden memorials, kerb surrounds, there’s a wide range, and prices vary a lot depending on stone, size, and inscription length. We work with trusted local stonemasons who know the rules different cemeteries apply.
There’s no need to rush this decision. Most cemeteries, including the ground at Green Acres Kemnal Park, ask families to wait several months after a burial before a permanent headstone goes in, simply to let the earth settle properly.
If your family already has a plot at Green Acres Kemnal Park Cemetery, Chislehurst and you’d like an existing headstone cleaned, re-lettered, or restored, that’s something we can help arrange too.
Cremation is now the choice most families in this part of Kent and South East London make, and we work closely with two crematoria nearby to arrange the practical side of it.
Hither Green Crematorium, Verdant Lane, Catford is the closer of the two for most Chislehurst and Bromley families, and it’s the only crematorium on our local list serving this branch specifically, its traditional chapel seats around 80 and offers both religious and non-religious ceremonies.
Beckenham Crematorium, Elmers End Road is the other option many families consider, set in peaceful gardens with wheelchair access and capacity for larger services. A typical cremation, from the day of death to the service itself, usually takes two to three weeks, though this can vary depending on the coroner and registrar.
Afterwards, what happens to the ashes is entirely up to the family. Some choose to keep them at home, some scatter them somewhere meaningful, Scadbury Park, with its 300 acres of ancient woodland on the edge of Chislehurst, is one spot families sometimes choose, though there are plenty of others worth considering too.
Flowers say something words sometimes can’t, and there’s no single right way to do them, some families want a single, simple wreath; others want something bold and colourful that reflects exactly who the person was.
We work alongside local florists serving Chislehurst and Bromley who understand funeral work specifically, which matters, timing has to be exact, and the tone has to be right. If your loved one supported a particular charity, we can also help coordinate donation collections in lieu of flowers, which has become a popular choice for many of the families we support.
A traditional hearse and limousine cortege remains the choice most families make, though we also arrange smaller black cars or alternative vehicles for families who’d prefer something less formal.
Whether the service is at St Nicholas Church, Chislehurst, Hither Green Crematorium, Verdant Lane, Catford, or further afield, we know the routes and the timing well enough to make sure everyone arrives exactly when they should.
Available 24/7 across West Kent and South East London, call 020 8467 2222 to discuss transport options.
We supply a full range of coffin materials and styles, from solid wood through to eco-friendly options like willow and bamboo for families who want a more natural choice.
We’ll give you honest advice on what suits your budget and your wishes, never a sales pitch, that’s been true of this branch for over 30 years serving West Kent and South East London families.

National chains have been expanding into Kent over the last decade, often trading under names that sound independent but report back to a head office hundreds of miles away. We’re not one of them.
Local knowledge buys you things you can’t get from a call centre script: knowing that St Mary’s Church, College Road, Bromley on College Road needs services booked further in advance than most, knowing which stonemasons do honest work at Green Acres Kemnal Park Cemetery, Chislehurst, knowing that a family two streets from Belmont Parade has used us for three generations and expects the same care now as their grandparents got.
Every price we quote is written down, explained clearly, and agreed before anything is booked. No surprises on the final invoice, that’s a promise we keep because we have to look these families in the eye afterwards, not just process a transaction.
Welham Jones isn’t passing through Chislehurst and Bromley. We’re part of it, sponsoring local events, supporting the community we’ve served since 1998, and planning to be here for the next generation of families too.

The location is easy. Deciding the flower arrangements, slightly trickier. But, when planning a funeral, we hear many family members say that writing the eulogy is the hardest part. Where do I start? What are people expecting me to say? How can I possibly epitomise an entire life in just one speech? With over thirty years of experience helping families across West Kent and South East London arrange funerals, we know how daunting this task can be. That’s why we’ve put together a practical guide, with tips to help you write and deliver a eulogy that truly honours your loved one.
How would you like your life to be commemorated? A recent survey suggests that, while some traditional funeral elements remain evergreen choices, some contemporary ideas are gaining definite ground among those thinking about their own funerals.
When you lose a loved one, you suddenly have only weeks to prepare their funeral – at a time when you are dealing with your own grief, and probably that of people close to you and the deceased. These key questions will help you choose a funeral director who will work with you to shape the farewell you would wish your loved one to have.
