Swanley is a small town on the borders of south-east London and Kent. Though it has a BR8 postcode, which is part of the London Borough of Bromley, it is actually in the Sevenoaks District of Kent. Nearby you will find Swanley village, Eynesford, Farningham, Hextable, West Kingsdown, Crockenhill and Wilmington. It is also very near to Orpington, Bexley and Dartford.

Shopping

At the heart of Swanley, with over 30 stores, is its shopping centre, which is situated next to a large Asda supermarket. Every Wednesday, Swanley Market is held in the town centre from 8 am to 3 pm, with a good mixture of stalls, selling everything from clothing, shoes to household items.

Though Swanley is a relatively small town, there are still a number of good restaurants and places to eat. If you are looking for somewhere with a “little extra” entertainment, you might want to try Namaste Swanley, a fine dine Indian restaurant and cocktail bar and on the weekends host a DJ and karaoke parties. If you are looking for more “traditional” British food, you can’t go wrong with The Bull, part of The Beefeater chain of restaurants, where there serve breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner, plus they have a children’s menu. If it’s more of a pint and something to eat pop along the family run pub, The Chequers, which in the centre of Crockenhill. There offer a variety of real ales with three different guest ales each week, plus they serve quality pub food. What more could you ask for. On Tuesday’s, Wednesday’s and Thursday’s they have an “Over 55’s” special rated menu. And on Sunday, your traditional roast dinner! There are times when all you want is fish n’ chips…the Blue harbour Fish and Grill has got you covered, whether you want a sit in meal or takeaway.

Places To Visit

Set in 60 acres of parkland you will find Swanley Park, a great place to spend a day with the family. With a wide range of attractions and things to do, including a large boating lake, zip wire, a paddling pool and water splash area plus all the swings and climbing frames children need. One of the biggest attraction that can be found in the park is the Swanley New Barn railway, which is a miniature 7 ¹⁄₄ in gauge railway. A must visit visit for any train enthusiast.

Not to far from the centre of town is the White Oak Leisure Centre, which overs a wide range of activities, including a 33m swimming pool, exercise studio and classes, multi-sports hall, squash courts, wellness gym plus children activities and the ability to host children’s parties.

Transport

Swanley railway station is served by Southeastern and Thameslink trains to London via Victoria and Blackfiars and to Kent via Dover Priory, Canterbury, Sevenoaks and Ashford International station.

Education

Swanley has five primary schools but only one secondary school, Orchards Academy, and this is close to the centre of town. Other nearby secondary schools can be found in Sidcup, Orpington and Dartford.
