There’s no single reason families ask. For some, the coffin should say something about a life: a passion, a place, a sense of humour. Others can’t quite say what they want, only that the catalogue isn’t it. We offer three routes:
- Printed or picture coffins. Our Avant-Garde designs carry full-colour images, from countryside scenes to a much-loved hobby.
- Your own photographs or artwork can be added for an extra charge, and there’s a cardboard version too.
- Engraved coffins. The Nomine has a name or short message engraved along the side, and it’s painted in a single colour of your choosing.
- Made-to-order coffins. Built around your choice of timber, finish and fittings, working with specialist coffin makers beyond our standard range.
Put simply, a personalised coffin is one of our existing designs, changed to reflect the person. A custom one is made to your own specification from the start. Neither is better. What matters is what feels right, and what can be ready for the funeral date.
Our bespoke coffin process in Borough Green
A first conversation. Call 01732 780600 or come into 43 Western Road. Bring photos, colours, words, or nothing at all. We keep sample coffin ends here, so you can see and touch the timbers and finishes rather than choosing from a screen.
Planning around the funeral. If the service is at Vinters Park Crematorium in Maidstone, it’s booked into a fixed time, and most service slots there run for 45 minutes. The coffin has to be finished and in our care well before that, so we plan the build backwards from the date.
Getting the fittings right. For cremation, national guidance from the Federation of Burial and Cremation Authorities rules out metal fittings and some finishes, such as polyurethane varnish. Set your heart on a particular handle? We can suggest a cremation-friendly alternative. For a woodland burial at Bluebell Cemetery in Halstead, natural, biodegradable materials are encouraged, so an untreated timber or wicker finish may suit better.
A written cost, then the order. You’ll have a clear written cost before anything is ordered. Printed designs are usually quicker to arrange than a coffin made from scratch, and we’ll give you an honest timeframe at that first conversation.
Bespoke coffin costs in Borough Green
A made-to-order coffin can’t be priced from a list, because no two are the same. The things that change the cost are whether it’s a printed design or a full build, the timber and finish, the size, the handles and fittings, and whether you’re supplying your own photographs.
Our printed and engraved designs, with their current prices, are shown on our coffin and casket prices page. Whatever you choose, the full cost is agreed in writing before anything’s ordered. No hidden extras get added later, and any crematorium or burial ground fees are shown as their own lines.
