What are the Tunbridge Wells Business Awards?

The Tunbridge Wells Business Awards were set up last year by local loyalty card The TN Card to celebrate the best of the Tunbridge Wells business community, honouring the successes and achievements of the businesses and businesspeople doing great things for the town and the contribution they make to the Tunbridge Wells economy and community.

The headline sponsor this year is Berry & Lamberts Solicitors, with the award ceremony being held at Trinity Theatre and Arts Centre on 19 November.

What category is Welham Jones up for?

We’re delighted to be shortlisted in the Best Large Business category, sponsored by CooperBurnett Solicitors, open to ‘thriving businesses with 20+ employees’. The finalists have been selected for showing strong growth, leadership and impact.

In 2024, we were a runner up in the Employer of the Year category.

What did Welham Jones have to demonstrate to be shortlisted for Best large Business?

To make it through to one of the six finalists of the Best Large Business title, we’ve had to show what sets us apart from our competitors. As a family-owned company, we’ve demonstrated how the ethos of family informs how we look after our staff and the families whom we are honoured to serve in their time of need, with quality, customer-focused, personalised service being central to every element of our funeral planning services. We’ve also explained how being truly independent enables us to be transparent in our pricing.

We had to detail our achievements over the last year, which have included a major investment in our new website, with the challenges of integrating third-party services, such as our memorial and charitable donations portals. We’ve tracked our growth, including taking on extra staff and increasing our market share in Tunbridge Wells. And we’ve shown how we’ve risen to the business challenges presented by the increases in employers’ National Insurance contributions, the National Living Wage and business rates.

We’ve also had to evidence innovation over the last 12 months. This has included fresh-thinking marketing to support our recruitment drives, introducing new memorial pages to give families the chance to pay tribute to their loved ones, and adapting our digital marketing strategy to the new AI landscape.

What other criteria are the judges looking at?

As business awards set up to support and encourage the Tunbridge Wells business community and the wider town, the judges will also be looking at our contribution to the people of Tunbridge Wells. We’ve had to show how we track customer satisfaction and staff wellbeing, and how we have incorporated sustainability into our business through our internal systems and procedures, our product range and enabling families to choose ‘green’ funeral options

Finally, we’ve had to show how we support the community of Tunbridge Wells. Alongside our charitable initiatives, such as collecting chocolates and presents for the less fortunate in the town at Easter and Christmas, we’ve evidenced our support for local businesses through our supply chain and through our proactive membership of local networking groups BNI Royal Spa and The Sevenoaks District Chamber of Commerce

We’re delighted to have made the finals of the Tunbridge Wells Business Awards 2025 and wish all the other finalists the very best of luck.
