We’rethrilled to announce that we’ve been shortlisted for two titles in the Tunbridge Wells Business Magazine Awards 2025. We’re finalists in both the Employer of the Year and Sustainability & Communitycategories, with the winners due to be announced in December.
What are the Tunbridge Wells Business Magazine Awards?
Tunbridge Wells Business Magazine is run by business people for the business community of the town. Through news, reviews, advice and exclusive Interviews it delivers high-quality informative and engaging original content that targets entrepreneurs and business leaders in the town on topics that directly impact their companies – from legal, financial, commercial and legislative issues, to technology, human resources and recruitment.
The Tunbridge Wells Business Magazine Awards 2025 celebrate innovation, resilience and outstanding achievement within the town’s thriving independent business community, in ten categories to recognise different sectors as well as the different stages of business growth, from start-up to large business.
In which categories is Welham Jones a finalist?
We’re delighted to have made the finals of the Sustainability and Community Award, sponsored by leading regional law firm Cripps, as well as Employer of the Year, sponsored by recognised local recruitment firm TN Recruits, with the finalists announced in the November issue of the magazine.
What did Welham Jones have to demonstrate to be shortlisted for Employer of the Year?
Our people are central to our business – it is their alignment with our values that enables us to offer exemplary care to every family that we support. Therefore, looking after our staff is central to our business philosophy and success.
We provided evidence of the support we provide for our staff through generous employment terms and benefits, wellbeing measures and teambuilding strategies, as well as the opportunities for career progression and training and for making an impact within the business.
We were also able to give testimonials from our staff, including comments such as:
“Welham Jones epitomises family values, both to its staff and clients alike.”
“I can honestly say I wake up in the morning looking forward to going to work; it’s the most rewarding job but importantly the nicest group of people to work with, who genuinely care about doing the best for the families who come to us.”
“Welham Jones is a family business with family values at the heart. It is a pleasure to work with such a dedicated team of caring and compassionate people who put the wishes of families first in every aspect and on every occasion.”
What sustainability and community contribution credentials does Welham Jones have?
As funeral directors serving families across West Kent and South London for more than 30 years, supporting our local communities is central to our business philosophy. We do this through a range of local sponsorships, charitable initiatives such as collecting chocolates and toys for children in need and in hospital at Christmas and Easter, and playing a proactive role in our local business communities, particularly by choosing local firms wherever possible through our supply chain.
Our sustainability strategies focus on three core elements:
Our internal processes: We have a range of policies to reduce our own carbon footprint, including using only sustainably sourced paper, reducing print, switching off machines, fleet management – we are looking into running a fleet of electric or hybrid hearse & limousines. We additionally use local suppliers wherever possible to reduce our carbon footprint.
Our products: We take great care to source sustainable products by only using products and timbers grown in renewable forests.
Eco-funerals: We proactively support customers to reduce the environmental impact of the funerals by offering a range of ‘green’ options.
We’re delighted to have made the finals of the Tunbridge Wells Business Magazine Awards 2025 alongside such strong local competition and wish all the other finalists the very best of luck.
