Do I Need To Be a Church Goer To Be Buried in a Churchyard or Can Anyone Be Buried in a Churchyard?
The question is, do I need to be a churchgoer to be buried in a churchyard? The short answer to that is no. I’m Simon Welham, I’m the owner and managing director of Welham Jones Funerals and Memorials. And the reason for the answer is that anyone is entitled to be buried in a churchyard as long as it is in your local parochial churchyard.
Whether you are Anglican, Catholic, Muslim, secular, you have a right to be buried there. The difficulty is often people confuse the need for the service in church with buried in the churchyard. They are actually separate items. But if you don’t have a service in church, you can have a service at the graveside. So, just remember that anyone can be buried in a churchyard.
And that is often where a churchyard is open in your parish. The cheapest way, the lowest cost way of having a funeral.
